2. Stuff we like

2A. Websites

These are the websites we like, and thought you might like them as well. Take a look below:

Adbusters

This is what they have to say about themselves: ‘We are a global network of culture jammers and creatives who are working to change the way information flows and meaning is produced in our society’ and here is their website:

http://www.adbusters.org/

and this is what Wikipedia has to say about culture jamming:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_jamming

Freecycle

This is what they have to say about themselves: ‘The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,592 groups with 5,732,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills.’ and here is their website:

http://www.freecycle.org/

Wikipedia

This is what they have to say about themselves: ‘The free encyclopedia that anyone can edit’ and here is their website:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

Telephone Preference Service (TPS) – UK only

This is what they have to say about themselves: ‘TPS is the central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales and marketing telephone calls to your home or mobile telephone numbers.’ and here is their website:

http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/what/

mixthemessage.com says: ‘Basically it is a free of charge service, and seems to stop those darn annoying phone calls you receive where someone is trying to sell you double glazing.’

2B. Books

These books are really inspiring and make for a very good read. We don’t have any links to these authors, nor make anything from your purchase (the same applies to the websites above). Probably cheapest place to buy these books is from the amazon website:

‘Tuesdays with Morrie’ by Mitch Albom

mixthemessage.com says: Basically its just a really great ‘look at what you have in your life’ book. Last time we looked you could buy it for £0.33p from amazon.co.uk.

Here is a synopsis about the book from amazon.co.uk: ‘Maybe it was a grandparent, or a teacher or a colleague. Someone older, patient and wise, who understood you when you were young and searching, and gave you sound advice to help you make your way through it. For Mitch Albom, that person was Morrie Schwartz, his college professor from nearly 20 years ago. Maybe, like Mitch, you lost track of this mentor as you made your way, and the insights faded. Wouldn't you like to see that person again, ask the bigger questions that still haunt you? Mitch Albom had that second chance. He rediscovered Morrie in the last months of the older man's life. Knowing he was dying of ALS - or motor neurone disease - Morrie visited Mitch in his study every Tuesday, just as they used to back in college. Their rekindled relationship turned into one final "class": lessons in how to live. This is a chronicle of their time together, through which Mitch shares Morrie's lasting gift with the world.’

‘The Monk who Sold his Ferrari’ by Robin S. Sharma

mixthemessage.com says: A nice story this one, really inspirational. Last time we looked you could buy it for £2.50 from amazon.co.uk.

Here is a synopsis about the book from amazon.co.uk: ‘An internationally bestselling fable about a spiritual journey, littered with powerful life lessons that teach us how to abandon consumerism in order to embrace destiny, live life to the full and discover joy. This inspiring tale is based on the author's own search for life's true purpose, providing a step-by-step approach to living with greater courage, balance, abundance and joy. It tells the story of Julian Mantle, a lawyer forced to confront the spiritual crisis of his out-of-balance life: following a heart attack, he decides to sell all his beloved possesions and trek to India. On a life-changing odyssey to an ancient culture, he meets Himalayan gurus who offer powerful, wise and practical lessons that teach us to:- Develop joyful thoughts - Follow our life's mission - Cultivate self-discipline and act courageously - Value time as our most important commodity - Nourish our relationships - Live fully, one day at a time’.

'1984' by George Orwell

mixthemessage.com says: An absolute classic, read it. Last time we looked you could buy it for £0.44p from amazon.co.uk.

Here is a synopsis about the book from amazon.co.uk: 'Hidden away in the Record Department of the sprawling Ministry of Truth, Winston Smith skilfully rewrites the past to suit the needs of the Party. Yet he inwardly rebels against the totalitarian world he lives in, which demands absolute obedience and controls him through the all-seeing telescreens and the watchful eye of Big Brother, symbolic head of the Party. In his longing for truth and liberty, Smith begins a secret love affair with a fellow-worker Julia, but soon discovers the true price of freedom is betrayal'.

3. Random stuff

Here are a few random things we have seen:

Old shoes:

Got an old pair of shoes, trainers or flip flops you no longer want?. Well, the other day mixthemessage.com witnessed someone putting some super glue onto the sole of an old shoe and stick it onto a pavement (or sidewalk for our American friends), where will they stick it next...

Fake poo & vomit stain:

Similar to above.  We have seen a fake poo (and also pretend vomit stain) purchased from a joke shop, stuck to some pretty random places, where will they stick it next... Thankfully they didn't stick a real poo or vomit stain up with super glue. That would be quite messy.
